Who can attend the Broad Advantage?

Current undergraduate 85 Broads members are invited to apply for the Broad Advantage for Undergraduates. Outgoing seniors, class of 2008, may apply for the Broad Advantages in the summer of 2008.

When is the application deadline?

The deadline for submitting applications is April 30th at 12:00pm EST. Admissions are conducted on a rolling basis; to ensure placement, apply early. We have a limited capacity for each session and attendees will be accepted on a weekly basis until all spaces are filled.

How much does the Broad Advantage cost?

For the 5-day New York City session, the price is $750 USD with 85 Broads-provided housing and $550 USD without housing. For the 3-day Sydney, Australia session, the price is $710 USD (approx $750 AUD) with 85 Broads-provided housing and $440 USD (approx $480 AUD) without housing. This fee includes breakfast and lunch and program materials. Participants are asked to cover the cost of their own transportation to and from the session location.

Is financial aid available?

A limited number of scholarships will be available on a merit basis. You can indicate whether or not you would like to be considered for financial aid on your application.

How will decisions on financial aid be made?

Decisions will be made based on the content of your application including the essay responses.

Where will Broad Advantage be held in Sydney, Australia?

Broad Advantage will be held at Citigate Central Sydney.

Are the housing areas safe?

Yes. But as always, you should be aware of your surroundings while traveling. At the New York University housing facility there will be an NYU Public Safety Officer posted in the lobby of Hayden Hall at all times.

Am I required to live in 85 Broads housing?

Living in 85 Broads housing is not required, in fact if you choose not to use our housing your price is reduced! However, we do not recommend that you try and reserve a hotel room on your own.

If I use 85 Broads housing, will I have a roommate?

You will have one or two roommates for the duration of the program.

If I elect for 85 Broads provided housing for the Sydney session, where will I stay?

Attendees to the session in Sydney, Australia will stay at Citigate Central Sydney. Citigate Central Sydney is centrally located in Sydney's bustling theatre and entertainment districts. All guestrooms are bathed in natural light and offer everything to make your stay a comfortable one. The CBD, major shopping precincts and tourist attractions, including Darling Harbour, Cockle Bay and the Entertainment Centre, are all within easy walking distance of the hotel.

If you have requested accommodation, you are able to book into the hotel from 2pm on 6 July 2008. Checkout will be on 9 July 2008 (unless privately arranged by yourself)

If I elect for 85 Broads provided housing for the New York City session, where will I stay?

Attendees to the session in New York City will stay in New York University summer housing at Hayden Hall.

If you have requested accommodation to the New York City session, you are able to book into the dormitories on August 3rd, 2008. Checkout will be on August 8, 2008.

Hayden Hall is air-conditioned. Attendees will stay in unadorned dormitory bedrooms in suites. Each bedroom is furnished with a bed, desk, dresser, and closet/wardrobe for each guest. Hayden Hall has a television lounge and two computers in the lobby that allow access to the internet should you wish to check your email. An NYU Public Safety Officer is posted in the lobby at all times.

When you check-in at the NYU reception desk, you will receive your room key, a temporary identification card allowing you access to the residence hall and a linen package. The linen package contains a sheet, blanket, pillow, pillowcase, and small towel. Upon departure, the linen should be brought to the reception desk. There is a laundry room in the building that you may use during their stay.

If so some reason I am not able to attend Broad Advantage, will I be refunded?

Please note that if you fail to inform us that you will not be able to attend Broad Advantage 6 weeks prior to the program start date we will be unable to refund your tuition. The last day to cancel for the Sydney program is May 25th, 2008 and the New York City program is June 23rd, 2008.
